Maharashtra’s state-run BEST undertaking has initiated an ultra-fast electric bus network in Mumbai’s suburban corridors. The fleet of 200 high-speed 9-meter e-buses will operate on core routes spanning Navi Mumbai, Thane, and central Mumbai. Equipped with fast-charging capabilities and regenerative braking, these buses offer reduced turnaround time and energy savings. Preliminary trials indicate a 40% reduction in morning peak travel duration for commuters. Circular charging stations with rooftop solar will support the system, and the government plans to expand the fleet to 1,000 buses by 2027, significantly reducing urban pollution.
